As is traditional for a U.S. midterm election, all eyes are focused on the House of Representatives, with Democrats attempting to wrestle back control from Republicans after four years in the minority. Northeast Ohio could be at the center of that battle, aj ewing with one significant tossup district and others that could come into play if the political winds strongly favor one party over the other.
For the third straight election cycle, Ohio will have 15 seats in Congress — the state's smallest delegation since before the Civil War. However, 2026 will see the state utilize newly drawn House district maps following a last-minute agreement between Democrats and the Ohio General Assembly's Republican supermajority.
Analysts say the new maps could give the GOP a greater advantage in two crucial districts and Dems a boost in the other, with the remaining 12 considered heavily partisan. Still, with President Donald Trump's approval rating currently sitting below 40% and the party occupying the White House historically underperforming in the midterms, it could be tough to determine what swing voters will do in November.
Before the general election, though, we had to get through the primaries. Of the nine congressional districts that include at least a portion of Northeast Ohio, jeff probst only one did not have at least one contested party primary.
Here's who will be battling this November to represent Northeast Ohio in Congress, in numerical order by district:
That would be District 4, which includes the southern portion of Richland County and will feature incumbent U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan (the chair of the powerful House Judiciary Committee) facing off against Democrat Joshua Kolasinski and independent Tamie Wilson.
