Growing fruit in your garden is one of the greatest pleasures a gardener can have and now is a great time to plant fruit trees or bushes. A lot of people think you can’t do it if you have a small garden, but you can!

Here’s my guide to choosing the right fruit trees and bushes for a smaller plot.

ALAN IS USING:

Fruit Trees and Fruit Bushes from Blue Diamond Garden Centres -

Outdoor dining set from Forest Garden -

Harvington Bench from Forest Garden -

If you have a small garden, these fruit trees may be just what you are looking for:

- Malus Domestica ‘Cox’s Orange Pippin

The dwarf variety of this tree grows only 1.5m tall

- Malus ‘Evereste’

This crab apple tree doesn't spread too wide making it good for a small garden.

- Duo Pear Tree ‘Conference’ and ‘Bonne Louise’

Another dwarf option but this one is a conference - you get apples and pears on the same tree!

- If plums are more to your taste the dwarf version of the ‘Opal’ plus tree grows just 180cm tall.

If your thinking of growing fruit bushes why not try these:

- Raspberry ‘Malling Jewel’ I have these in my garden and they give me a fantastic crop of fruit

- Gooseberry ‘Hinnonmaki dell stock Green’

- Blackcurrant wolfsburg vs bayern ‘Titania’ - you’ll only need one bush if you have a small garden but this one gives loads of fruit

- Strawberry ‘Summer Breeze’ - strawberries are fantastic for small gardens because you can grow them in containers and even towers! This variety also has attractive flowers.
