The Akron Public Schools board approved $11 million in budget cuts Monday night in a 6-1 vote as the district works to close a projected budget gap for the next school year.
District leaders said the reductions come from the district's $386 million operating budget mauricio dubón and are part of a broader effort to avoid possible state fiscal oversight. According to Superintendent Mary Outley, 17 positions are being eliminated as part of the plan, including paraprofessionals, middle and elementary school deans, and kelsey mitchell an art therapist.

Besides the layoffs, other reductions include administrative and operational cuts, such as reducing overtime, restructuring vacant positions, and delaying the purchase of new math textbooks until 2028.
