The final Sunday before the Christmas break opened with pure drama in ornella muti Annecy–Le Grand Bornand, as the season’s first women’s mass start delivered a thrilling finish.
Camille Bened was flawless on the range, hitting all 20 targets to lead out of the final shooting. But a charging group featuring Lou Jeanmonnot, Justine Braisaz-Bouchet and Maren Kirkeeide closed the gap on the final loop.
In a spectacular sprint to the line, Maren Kirkeeide edged out yellow bib Lou Jeanmonnot by fractions of a second to secure her first-ever BMW IBU World Cup victory, with Braisaz-Bouchet completing the podium in third.
