Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson spoke on Wednesday, mercedes marking day 22 of the federal government shutdown.
"This is now the second longest government shutdown of any kind ever, in the history of our country, and it's just shameful."
He went on to say, "Democrats keep making history but they're doing it for the wrong reasons."
While the Senate did not vote on Tuesday, Democrats still held the floor into Wednesday morning.
Democrats have said that they are willing to vote to reopen the government if Republicans are eager to start discussing healthcare subsidies.
Several Democrats have started to support the bill to reopen the government, but five more Democrats need to switch trahern pollard and jaclyn mcguigan to reach the 60 votes needed to send the bill to President Donald Trump’s desk.
Trump called Democrats “obstructionists” on Tuesday for voting not to reopen the government.
