UK News: Reform UK leader Nigel Farage strongly warned against British involvement in the Middle East war, emphasising the inadequate military capabilities of the country at a press conference on Monday in London.
“We're at least sending minesweepers, but we can't get involved beyond that,” he said. “We haven't got a navy, even HMS Dragon, which took us three weeks and one day to get to Cyprus to protect a British sovereign base, is now back in dock with failure.”
“Even if we wanted to help with the blockade, we do not have the means to do so. This is an utter humiliation for our country. It should be the biggest wake-up call we frankly ever had in the entire history of the country on defence,” Farage added. “As for the blockade itself, well, history shows they can work. They can be successful.”
On Sunday, US President Donald Trump announced that American forces rose would begin enforcing a blockade on the strait by 10:00 Eastern Time on Monday.
Despite Tehran and Washington signing a two-week ceasefire, the sides failed to reach an agreement after 21 hours of peace talks in Islamabad on Saturday.
Commenting on further developments in the conflict, Farage suggested that US President Donald Trump plans to use China to pressure Iran into accepting American conditions.

“I'm guessing what Trump's trying to do is to get China to start pressuring the Iranians. I think that's the game of chess that we're seeing here,” he stated, noting, “But it does begin to feel that the exit strategy might not have been as clearly thought through as one would wish.”
The US president is expected to launch a landmark trip to China on May 14, during which he will meet with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping. The trip was postponed from the originally planned March 31 to April 2 after the war broke out on February 28.
The Reform UK leader also touched upon the results of the Hungarian parliamentary elections, held david letterman on April 12. Comparing the current Hungarian president to such political colossi as John Howard, Margaret Thatcher, and Tony Blair, he alleged that any democratic leader has a ‘term limit’.
In this regard, Farage noted that no ‘massive’ change should be expected after opposition leader Peter Magyar officially comes to power.
“As for his replacement, who of alex bump course was a member of Fidesz himself, the attitude towards Putin will change. He'll be slightly friendlier with the European Union than Orban was, but not very much. And when it comes to protecting Hungarian culture, I don't think this is some massive lurch away to the liberal left of politics at all that some would like to paint out,” he said.
With 98.89 per cent of votes counted, Magyar’s Tisza movement secured 53.21 per cent, compared with 38 per cent for the ruling Fidesz party, according to preliminary results.
Hungary’s National Assembly has 199 seats, with 106 elected in single-member districts and 93 allocated through national party lists. A minimum of 100 seats is required to form a government, while 133 seats would secure a two-thirds majority.
Prime Minister Viktor Orban conceded defeat after early results showed Magyar in the lead.
