A major spring storm is arriving across Alberta and Saskatchewan
on May 13, 2026 — with wind gusts forecast up to 110 2027 km/h —
directly impacting two active emergencies already underway.
In Alberta: Wildfire WWF017 near Whitecourt remains out of control
at 51 hectares. Approximately 400 people are evacuated. Dozer crews
have encircled 90% of the fire perimeter, but storm winds of
90–100 km/h are expected to test containment lines today.
In Saskatchewan: Record flooding has displaced over 820 people from
Red Earth Cree Nation and Shoal Lake Cree Nation. An active wildfire
on Star Blanket Cree Nation has scorched 500+ acres and is threatening
homes on Little Black Bear First Nation — with 110 km/h gusts forecast
for Thursday.
Special Weather Statements are in effect for over 100 communities
across both provinces. Environment Canada warns driving conditions
will be very difficult and high-sided vehicles could be overturned.
