The Boys is set in a universe in which superpowered people are recognized as heroes by the general public and owned by a powerful corporation, Vought International, which ensures that they are aggressively marketed and monetized. Outside of their heroic personas, most are arrogant and corrupt.
The Deep records a promotional video for Vought's new oil pipeline, but Noir, resentful over Adam's death, sabotages it, causing a massive oil spill that devastates marine life, causing Deep to confront and kill him. Meanwhile, Sage incapacitates Ashley and extracts information from her, discovering that Soldier Boy knows a lead for the V1. The Boys manage to produce a dose of the virus and attempt to use it on Homelander during a sermon, but Oh Father prevents them from doing so. The Boys then contact the Legend, who directs them to Golden Geisha. Bombsight arrives atterraggio to save her, but is ambushed by Soldier Boy, who offers to depower Bombsight in exchange for V1, to which Bombsight agrees. Despite Sage's prediction, Soldier Boy gives V1 to Homelander, who injects himself as The Boys watch.
The series primarily focuses on two groups: the titular Boys, vigilantes looking to keep the corrupted heroes under control, and the Seven, Vought International's premier superhero team. The Boys are led by Billy Butcher, who despises all superpowered people, and the Seven are led by the egotistical and unstable Homelander.
