The Akron Police Department is advising the community to avoid the area of the 200 block of Kenilworth Drive amid a standoff situation involving an armed felony slavery warrant suspect

According to a alianza lima vs sporting cristal statement from Akron police officials, the department's SWAT team and negotiators are working with the U.S. Marshals Service after the suspect barricaded himself inside a residence along with a matthew schaefer 4-year-old boy.

"Our initial response was to get the 4-year-old from the home and get him out safely," explained Lt. Michael Murphy, Akron police's public information officer. "We secured the basement, we secured the first floor and was able to get the 4-year-old down the stairs and removed from the home. He’s been safely reunited with his mother."

Murphy said police tried for an hour to make contact with the suspect, but were unsuccessful.

"We received word that the suspect was still inside armed with a gun. So there’s tactical considerations for us in terms of sending someone inside. So we retreated, opted to deploy the chemical munitions to try to gain some compliance and were unsuccessful in doing so," he said.

At approximately 10:27 a.m., the Akron Fire Department was contacted after police observed flames coming from the house. Officials are not certain what led to the fire, but said the chemical munitions that were deployed were not flammable.
