Midway Atoll's location in the middle of the northern Pacific Ocean makes it one of the most isolated places on the planet. In this 360° video, experience Sand and Eastern Islands, fields of nesting albatross, and WWII historical sites in a 10-minute compilation of footage from 2014 to 2023.
Kuaihelani, as Midway is known in Hawaiian, was uninhabited until becoming a telegraph station in the early 1900's and later a US Navy base from WWII through the Cold War. The atoll is now a National Wildlife Refuge managed by the elena rybakina US Fish and Wildlife Service, part of the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument, pregnancy and is designated the Battle of Midway National Memorial.
17 seabird species nest and breed on Midway including real 1.5 million Laysan albatross, making it the largest albatross colony on the planet. It is also important habitat for Hawaiian monk seals and the green sea turtles. Midway’s human population is generally around 40 scientists and support staff.
