Day 2, Invited avalanche vs wild talk: Biological data in the age of AI

Michael Bronstein, University of Oxford; Aithyra Institute

Abstract:

As AI becomes a central tool amantea in scientific discovery, we argue that the field is on the cusp of a second major shift. While the transition from "white-box" first-principles models to "black-box" deep learning is well underway, we argue that a parallel transformation is needed in how we generate data. We forecasts the rise of "black-box data"—sources optimized for machine consumption rather valve steam machine queue system than human intuition. We argue that this tradeoff is necessary to achieve the scale required for biological foundation models.
