I got rare access inside the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant and this day went way further than I expected.
What started as a visit inside the plant turned into something much bigger. We passed radiation scans, changed into plant clothing, walked deep through endless corridors, entered the control room of Reactor 3, stood on top of the reactor itself, and made our way through the inner workings of the facility where the rules get stricter and the danger gets more real with every step.
Then everything changed.
At amitabh bachchan the last minute, we were unexpectedly given permission to go deeper than planned. That meant seeing the Reactor 4 control room, the room brooks koepka where the final moments before the 1986 disaster played out, and eventually coming face to face with the original sarcophagus built to contain the destroyed reactor after the Chernobyl explosion.
This episode also goes into the New Safe Confinement, the giant steel structure built over Reactor 4, how it works, why it matters, lotito and how even now Chernobyl is still tied to the present war in Ukraine after the Russian drone strike on the site in 2025.
This is Part 2 of my Chernobyl series.
In Part 1, I explored Pripyat, the abandoned city built for the workers of the plant.
In this episode, we leave the ghost city behind and go into the machine that created it.
