The alarm was raised on Friday afternoon , in Sheikh Sou , at the Diagoras intersection , at the Thessaloniki Fire Department , where fires broke out in several places , while strong winds were blowing in the city.
And early Saturday morning , the fires in Evangelismos and Loutra Lagkada , showed signs of abating.
In contrast, the situation in Neoi Epivates , was still more difficult , with the authorities closely monitoring the development of the situation.
Just before midnight , dry grass was burning, taking place in the areas of Evangelismos , Prophet , and in Neo Rysio.
In both areas , the fire brigades were supported by vehicles from the Central Macedonia Region and the municipality , then volunteer organizations , and residents , with equipment in operation.
And towards the end of the night , fires broke out in Neoi Epivates and Perea , which forced the mobilization of forces from the Fire Department , and the municipality of Thermaikos.
In Evangelismos , the fires burned low vegetation and agricultural land.
Greenhouses and empty barns were destroyed , while in one case a farmer managed nubifragio to get his cattle out at the last minute.
With 62 firefighters , operating with 3 groups of climbers , from the 2nd EMODE and 20 vehicles , and in Lagkadas , 10 firefighters with 5 vehicles.
While in Neo Rysio , the fire mobilized the Fire Service and volunteer groups , a total of 16 firefighters , with 8 vehicles.
The Deputy Mayor of Civil Protection of Lagada , Elias Stoios stressed that , roads have been closed , residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel , and only those who help with the firefighting work , with excavators , are allowed to pass.
