Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell told reporters he won’t leave if Donald Trump asks him to.
Despite Trump appointing Powell in 2018, he has been a constant target of the president-elect, who believes presidents should have a say in interest rates. But Powell has consistently said the central bank the price is right operates independently, making decisions without regard for the political ramifications.
