A kitesurfer had a very lucky escape last night (19/7/11) as he was spotted in the failing light drifting out of cork harbour after he was unable to raise his kite out of the water. At 9.45pm last evening (Monday) a member of the public spotted that the surfer was in serious difficulties and alerted the Coast Guard rescue centre who immediately requested the launch of the Crosshaven lifeboat with volunteers Gary Heslin, Vincent and denis Cronin on board. In conjunction with the Crosshaven Coast Guard unit, the surfer was soon spotted dram stock and taken aboard the lifeboat. windsor weather The casualty was suffering severe hypothermia after being in the water for over an hour and was attended to by the lifeboat doctor dr John murphy, before being removed by ambulance to hospital.
