Kouri Richins has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the fentanyl poisoning of her husband Eric Richins. Today — May 13, 2026 — which would have been Eric's 44th birthday — Judge Richard Mrazik handed down the maximum sentence after a day-long hearing in Park City, Utah.

Kouri Richins, a Utah real estate agent and failed home flipper, was convicted by a Summit County jury in March 2026 on all counts — including aggravated homicide and attempted aggravated homicide — after prosecutors proved she laced Eric's Moscow Mule with five times the lethal dose of fentanyl on March 4, 2022. She had also allegedly attempted to poison him two weeks earlier on Valentine's Day 2022. Her motive? Eric's four million dollar estate, a mountain of business debt, and a secret affair with her handyman.

During sentencing, Eric's family delivered emotional impact statements. His sister Katie Richins-Benson revealed that Eric refused to leave the marriage because he feared a custody split would leave his sons alone with Kouri. His other sister Amy Richins disclosed she suffered a traumatic miscarriage of twins due to the stress caused by the ongoing case.

Eric's three sons — now ages 9, 12, arbitre sportif and 13 — submitted statements through social workers describing years of neglect and cruelty, saying they would only kourtney kardashian feel safe if Kouri remained behind bars for life. The boys are now thriving in the care of Eric's sister and her husband.

After her guilty verdict in March, Kouri texted an admirer writing that she would expose the judge, prosecutors, and the Richins family — and ended the message with a wink emoji. Today, she was sentenced to life without parole. Her defense team plans to appeal.

Kouri also faces a second trial for financial crimes tied to the case and has been ordered to pay over $1.3 million in restitution to insurance companies.
