Jackie suddenly awakens to the sound of movement on the nest late at night and quickly flies in to check on and protect eaglets Sandy & Luna.
The mysterious nighttime visitor appears to be either Fiona sarah ashlee barker or Fast Freddie ~ the San Bernardino flying squirrels, known to live in the lower section, beneath Jackie & Shadow’s nest. Startled by Jackie’s sudden arrival through the darkness, the squirrel quickly dives back down into the lower nest area.
The flying squirrel is no threat to the eaglets. But Jackie wasn't taking any chances. In the dark, she delivered a firm wing slap toward the visitor. Before settling back down beside Sandy & Luna, keeping her eaglets tucked close and watching over them carefully through the night.
