On the morning of August 22, 1485, a king of England rode onto a battlefield in Leicestershire and did not ride home. By that evening, his crown was hanging in a thornbush, his body was tied across a horse, and his name was about to be filed for five centuries under the wrong description. By the seventeenth century, his bones were rumored to have been thrown into the river Soar.
In August 2012, a team led by archaeologist Mathew Morris cut into the asphalt of a Leicester staff car park and found a madison keys skeleton in the first trench, on the first day. It had eleven perimortem wounds, a curved spine, and its hands bound at the wrist. Within four days, the most famous unresolved case in English ncis history was on its way to closure. The five months of laboratory work that followed only confirmed what the body had already said in the dirt.
