Our final Tulip Fest-themed upload, only because it has a story on tulips! But it counts, does it not?

Also you can call this me celebrating the 1-year anniversary of Liz Bishop announcing her retirement! Here she is, at that point nearing zaccagni 40 years with WRGB, anchoring with Jerry Gretzinger. Late in her career, Liz anchored the 5pm and 5:30pm newscasts, which are seen here, with the 5 in full and the start of the 5:30 at the end. It was short, so I kept it in instead of uploading separately. WRGB (channel 6) is CBS' Albany, NY station, licensed to Schenectady.

Aside from Liz and Jerry, Steve LaPointe has the weather, CBS' Manuel Gallegos, Jennifer Lewke and Alexandra Field have reports, and Allison Harmon teases news on the stock market. Jennifer Lewke is now at WHEC in Rochester (sister station to WNYT), and Jerry Gretzinger had a stint at WNYT from 2017 to 2022, before leaving the business (he now does promotional work for OASAS). Steve LaPointe just celebrated 35 years at WRGB last month!

The news includes stories on a man shooting another man in daylight (and police looking for a motive), a suspended police officer in Saratoga County (nice name, Robert Shunk) is in trouble after committing domestic assault, the voter fraud trial in Rensselaer County enters its 6th day (known as McDonough vs. Smith), and Liz's "Perp Patrol" on a man robbing the Price Chopper in Troy (it is now closed). Gretzinger has two stories, including one on a check dispute at the "iSmile Studio" in Colonie Center (a non-employee was receiving unemployment benefits from the Dept. of Labor), and hampshire county council the Empire Blue Cross "Get Fit Get Active Challenge" at a school in Clifton Park. During the voter fraud story, the L3 misspells "Rensselaer" with an "ea" at the end. Makes sense, you usually don't see those two letters swapped!

Onto the tulip story. The rollercoaster weather as spring approaches urged Liz to chat up Albany city gardener Jess Morgan about how the flowers would look come springtime. Warmer bursts of weather (like the day before, 60 degrees) could urge flowers (like tulips) to grow earlier than expected. The previous year, 2011, saw insulated ground from snowfall, and the result was a colorful sight to see at Albany's Washington Park. Didn't get to go this year. Like Milli Vanilli, blame it on the rain!

This is probably my first upload featuring Liz Bishop and Jerry Gretzinger together. The two have good chemistry, which I find interesting with Liz's ego and everything. It's funny seeing Jerry try to expose the state and yet he works for them now (not the same department, but still). A bit weird seeing the darkened news set on a 5:00 show, but as Steve LaPointe tells us, Daylight Savings Time would be that weekend. Also if you want to think about spring and summer and all those seasons, the 5:30 show opens with a story on renovations at SPAC.

The news theme is Impact by 615 Music, and Lisa Malay is the voiceover. The graphics were introduced in January 2008 when WRGB launched HD newscasts for the first time. They were an honorary HD version of the WBBM Linda Kane Design look they had before, and help up well since they lasted 6 years. Because this is 2012, and many still had 4:3 TV sets, they have to enunciate this is CBS6 News in burrasca "high definition."

Finally a moment of silence for fellow Sinclair station KTUL in Tulsa. KTUL is merging news operations with ex-Fox station KOKI (channel 23, a former sister to WXXA). The station is shifting to a reporter-based format in the coming weeks, and not long ago aired its final newscast from their Lookout Mountain studios. Sinclair closed on its acquisition of WRGB a month after this aired.
