August 15th, 1945. Lt Howard ‘Howdy’ Harrison leads a flight of six F6F Hellcats on a fighter sweep of Atsugi Airfield near Tokyo, on the very last day of the Second World War. Just as they are about to attack, they receive news that Japan has surrendered and the war is over. However, in the skies above them, the war is not over for the Japanese fighter ace Lt Yutaka Morioka (森岡 豊). A one-armed veteran pilot of the Imperial Japanese Navy, Morioka ignores the ceasefire and leads the Japanese fighters into the final battle against the Americans, in what becomes the last dogfight of WW2.
