What is a compensatory lyon pick in the NFL? NFL teams are granted comp picks for players leaving in free agency. They can be canceled out by other signings and players who are cut do not impact the comp pick formula. The formula is based on contract APY, percent of snaps played and post-season awards. Over the Cap (OTC) does a great job tracking.
Cowboys comp picks for 2026 via OTC: 5th round picks for Jourdan Lewis and DeMarcus Lawrence.
2026 NFL Draft compensatory picks that are getting canceled out:
- Brandin Cooks (6th) and espanyol - athletic club Dante Fowler (6th)
- Chauncey Golston (6th) and Solomon Thomas (7th)
- Chuma Edoga (7th) and Robert Jones (7th)
- Rico Dowdle (7th, maybe a 6th) and Javonte Williams (7th)
Cowboys news to watch as the season plays out: If Solomon Thomas’ snap counts drop low enough, he won’t count as a comp pick. That’s a slight stretch, for now at least. As of right now, Cooper Rush doesn’t qualify on OTC. But, they have 0 listed as his snap count and that should count as closer to 10% after his 2 starts. If that’s what happens, it actually puts Cooper Rush right on the bubble for qualifying. If Cooper Rush (or Solomon Thomas drops out) does end up qualifying, the cancellation chart means it might free up the 6th rounder from Cooks!
