In July 2023 a Japanese research vessel conducting deep-sea surveys in the North

3,280 feet depth in the twilight zone and captured footage of a massive dark shape with
elongated structures that turned out to be tentacles thicker than telephone poles and

the entire creature in a single frame, with research team estimating the creature was
