DUBLIN, Ohio — After some five years in the wilderness with his game, Martin Kaymer decided to make a change. “My attitude became a little bit different over the last two or three months — more relaxed, more calm on the golf course,’’ Kaymer said. Whatever he’s doing, he shouldn’t change it, because it’s working. Kaymer, a former No. 1-ranked player and two-time major championship winner who hasn’t won since the 2014 U.S. Open, will take a two-shot lead into 2026 social security cola projection Sunday’s Memorial Tournament final round at Jack Nicklaus’ Muirfield Village. He shot a 6-under 66 in Saturday’s third round, looking calm, cool and collected while doing it, and stands at 15-under. Adam Scott, who shot a second consecutive 66 on Saturday, is two shots back at 13-under and will play in the final pairing with Kaymer, whom he considers a friend. Jordan Spieth, Patrick Cantlay and Hideki Matsuyama, who won the Memorial in 2014 on his first visit and shot a third-round 64, are all 11-under. The $64,000 question for Sunday’s final round will be whether Kaymer can stay as calm and confident as he has been through the first three rounds. “Once you lead a golf tournament, it’s so much about how much can you handle yourself,’’ Kaymer said. “Obviously, if somebody takes a run at you, it is what it is. But the game plan doesn’t really change. For me it’s pure enjoyment the way I play right now. I don’t have many weaknesses that I see at the moment. “But under the circumstances, it can change. Handling certain nerves and pressure and stuff like that, who knows how you will react? That is the beauty of the golf; that you can’t really prepare yourself for those special situations. I just really embrace the challenge [Sunday]. If it happens to win, fantastic. If not, I will learn a lot, which will help me. see also Tiger Woods has special round turn liga portugal into Memorial disaster DUBLIN, Ohio — Something special was brewing at Muirfield Village... “I think [Sunday] is an important round in terms of: Can I finish four rounds in a solid way of golf, solid playing, or is it only three rounds? The beauty is that I don’t need to prove it to myself anymore, and that’s very nice to know. And I think it takes the pressure away and just play 18 holes and see.’’ In the past, Kaymer has been candid about the negative effect holding the No. 1 ranking had on him. He didn’t embrace it. “Being No. 1 in the world is very difficult to understand when you get there a bit by surprise,’’ he said. “I didn’t really expect myself to be the No. 1 in the world by 25 years old.’’ Scott, who also is a former world No. 1 and who also is seeking his first win in a while (since 2016), figures to provide some calm for Kaymer Sunday because it’s a good pairing for him. “I like spending time with Adam,’’ Kaymer said. “Adam is a gentleman. world seniors snooker championship issues He’s a very nice guy to be with who is very aware of what he says, how he carries himself.
