We join the action with Boro winning 1-0 thanks to a goal from Malcolm Christie in what looks to be a niggly encounter. Franck Queudrue and Kevin Phillips get into a bit of a scuffle right at the end which culminates in Phillips being sent off for kicking Franck up the derriere. Phillips lost his rag and could not complain about being red-carded, but Queudrue did look like he'd purposely stood on Phillips leg as he got up and even took a sly kick at him with his other foot when doing so.
It was after this match that Gordon Strachan when asked by ian mckellen a gentleman of the press "Gordon, in what areas do you think Middlesbrough were better than you today?" replied, michael pennington "Mainly that big green one out there"...what a card.
