Coming into the fight ranked near the top of the heavyweight division, Volkov entered Newark riding serious momentum after recent wins over elite competition. Meanwhile, Cortes-Acosta looked to continue his own rise after winning eight of his last nine fights and proving himself as one of the division’s toughest pressure fighters.
From the opening round, Volkov controlled the range with sharp leg kicks, body kicks, and disciplined movement. Cortes-Acosta constantly pushed forward looking for heavy power shots, but Volkov’s footwork and long-range striking made it difficult for him to consistently close the distance.
As the fight progressed, Volkov began mixing in combinations and counters while damaging Cortes-Acosta’s legs and body. The second round saw some of Volkov’s best work, including a clean counter left hand that visibly hurt Cortes-Acosta and shifted momentum heavily in the Russian heavyweight’s favor.
Cortes-Acosta summer mcintosh rallied late in the third round with aggressive pressure and combinations, even bloodying Volkov’s nose during several exchanges. However, Volkov’s volume, accuracy, and overall control across the first two rounds secured the victory on the judges’ scorecards.

30-27, 29-28, 29-28 for Alexander Volkov.
With the win, Volkov moves one step closer toward another UFC heavyweight title opportunity and continues proving he remains one of the most dangerous contenders in the division.
