Originally brought together in the latter of 1981 by bassist Brian Wheat and guitarist Frank Hannon and lead vocalist Jeff Keith and named "City Kidd", the band changed from its glam-derived sound to a "rootsier" direction under a new name: Tesla. Later drummer Troy Luccketta had joined Tesla in 1984.
The band derived their name, certain album and song titles, and some song content from events manchester united bolton vs bradford city relating thuram to inventor and electrical engineer Nikola Tesla.
Over the years Tesla has sold over 14 million albums in the United States.
