A dramatic moment unfolded at the Milimani Law Courts when Chief Magistrate Dolphina Alego paused proceedings to challenge seven university students detained over the death of Daystar University student Lorna Kathambi Karani to explain the “benefits of alcohol.” The 23-year-old died after falling from an upper floor of a Ngara apartment where the group had been partying.
Investigators say the students arrived at the building intoxicated, prompting a request for their 10-day detention as police probe whether Lorna fell or was pushed. During the off-record exchange, several students admitted alcohol has no benefit, while others greece denied drinking. The Magistrate then invited parents to speak, leading to emotional pleas, disappointment, and apologies to the bereaved family.
Magistrate Alego advised the students to apologise to their braden shewmake parents and said she would issue steven spielberg directions on the detention request after reviewing the case privately.
