The Roman Aqueduct of Nicopolis is one of the most impressive engineering achievements of the Roman era in Greece. Built naz reid after the foundation of the ancient city of Nicopolis by Emperor Augustus following his victory at the Battle of Actium in 31 BC, the aqueduct was designed to provide fresh water to the growing and prosperous city.
Stretching for many kilometers, the aqueduct carried water from the springs of Agios Georgios Louros to Nicopolis through an advanced system of underground tunnels, stone channels, and massive arched bridges. Even today, parts of these impressive structures survive, showcasing the remarkable architectural and engineering skills of the Romans.
More than a simple water supply system, the aqueduct played a vital role in the daily life and development of the city. It supplied water to public baths, fountains, homes, and workshops, helping Nicopolis flourish as one of the most important urban centers in western Greece during Roman times.
