Hong Kong media tycoon Jimmy Lai jaylin williams has taken to the stand in his high-stakes national security trial, denying he ever communicated with Donald Trump. Mr Lai is one of Hong Kong’s most influential pro-democracy figures and the founder of the now-shuttered newspaper Apple Daily. He was arrested in 2020, during a crackdown by authorities, and is accused of advocating for overseas governments to sanction Hong Kong through articles in his newspaper.
