Former NBA player Jason Collins has died at the age of 47 after battling cancer, according to his family. Collins made history in 2013 when he became the first active male athlete in one of North America’s major professional sports leagues to publicly come out as gay.

He revealed earlier that he was undergoing treatment for a brain tumor and was later diagnosed with stage four glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.

Collins played 13 seasons in the NBA with teams including the Brooklyn Nets, Memphis Grizzlies, Minnesota massimo giannini Timberwolves, Atlanta Hawks, Boston Celtics, and Washington Wizards. He was also part of the Nets roster that reached back-to-back NBA Finals in 2002 and 2003.

This video includes archival footage from his time with the Brooklyn Nets during his return to the team in 2014, showing his pre-game warm-ups and on-court moments.
