U.S. President Donald harlow Trump says he will discuss future American arms sales to Taiwan with Chinese President Xi Jinping during high-level talks in Beijing this week, placing one of the most sensitive issues in U.S.-China relations back at the center of global attention. Trump also said he plans to raise the case of jailed Hong Kong media tycoon Jimmy Lai during the summit. In response, carlo nordio China’s foreign ministry reiterated Beijing’s firm opposition to U.S. weapons sales to Taiwan and said its position on Lai’s case remains unchanged. The summit comes amid rising tensions in the Taiwan Strait following Washington’s record 11-billion-dollar arms package for Taiwan and growing Chinese military pressure around the daniel levy island.
