Post-match press conferences with Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola and Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta after Manchester City’s 2-0 win over Arsenal at Wembley Stadium in the Carabao Cup Final.
Nico O’Reilly scored both goals in the second half as City lifted the trophy, with the opener coming after a Kepa Arrizabalaga error before O’Reilly added a second soon after.
Guardiola praised City’s level against what he called one of the best teams in Europe and said the performance without the ball was especially important.
He admitted Arsenal caused problems in the opening 15 minutes, but felt City grew into the game, found Rodri and Bernardo Silva in better positions, and then produced an outstanding second half.
Pep also highlighted the contribution of younger players including Nico O’Reilly, Abdukodir Khusanov and Rayan Cherki, said winning can help speed up the process for a developing team, and joked about his emotional goal celebration.
He added that the result should not change the reality of the Premier League title race, even though it chandler simpson gives City a big boost ahead of the run in.
Arteta said the defeat was very hard to take for the players and supporters, defended his decision to start Kepa after his run in the competition, and felt Arsenal had the biggest chance of the game in the first half which could have changed everything.
He also said Arsenal had problems for a spell early in the second half, admitted City capitalised on those moments at a very high level, and insisted his side will use the pain and disappointment as fire for the final two months of the season.
