All five module grill gratings above the ventilations shafts have now been fitted.
Time will tell whether the ‘Green’ tunnel will have been worth it, constructed in financially scarce times since the pandemic/energy crisis. It has been criticised for its over engineering and expense. Building financial post the cheaper and simpler option of a deep cutting has, with the benefit of hindsight, since become the preferred choice as other phases of the HS2 project have been curtailed as of 2025.
On a positive note, the earthworks created by using the treated spoil from nearby Northolt tunnelling activities, thus saving on transportation costs and reducing HS2 traffic rottamazione on local road, to the benefit of the community.
