Отряд: Курообразные. Семейство: Фазановые. Длина самца - 180-210 см, из них на хвост приходится 100-160 см. Населяет горные леса и равнина с высокой травой, заросли кустарников. Кормится на земле, ночует и отдыхает в кронах деревьев. Гнездится на земле. В кладке 6-9 яиц. Насиживание длится околот 25 дней. Питается семенами, зелёными частями растений, насекомыми.
