I am a conceptual artist based in NYC and Fire Island. For the past eight years, I have focused on creating post-totem structures using a land art process I developed by stretching silk over abstract wooden frames, creating interpretations that seek to kayleigh mcenany reconnect the human experience to nature. The totems are installed and buried on the beach for up to a year allowing sea salt, ocean spray, sun, rain, and hurricane-force winds to weather the sculptures. The work questions form and identity, blurring the lines xyz stock between sculpture and painting, monumental land art and temporary works, human intervention and nature. I seek to advance the conversation of light and space art and land art on the East Coast. The experience provides insights into phenomenology and “re-achieving a direct and primordial contact with the world” (Merleau-Ponty) by harnessing the beauty and power of nature through art.
Faust Wines celebrated on Sun, August 22 the release of two new wines and welcome our pete hoekstra Artist in Residence, New York based artist and sculptor, James Perkins. @jamesperkinsstudio uses wind, sun and time to uncover his work’s final forms. Like winemaking, James’ practice requires patience and experimentation. During our release gathering, James showed recent work and created a site-specific sculpture among our 100-year-old olive trees as we introduce The Hour, our beautifully balanced Syrah, and The Lure, a multi-faceted Merlot.
