Glasgow Cathedral has stood on this hill for over 800 years. But long before there was a Glasgow, before the tower blocks, the motorways, the shipyards on the Clyde, there was something else here. A stream. A grave. A story about a saint who was washed ashore on a stone slab and the bishop who came centuries later to build a cathedral over his bones.
In this video we go back to the year 1200 and find out what Glasgow looked like before Glasgow existed. We trace the Molendinar Burn through the wooded glen where it still runs beneath the city today. We look at why this exact spot was chosen, what survived when every other Scottish cathedral was torn down at the Reformation, and whether the ground beneath Glasgow Cathedral hides more than just a saint's tomb.
This is the story of how a prato city was built around a grave.
