This is the commemorative 1948 throwback game between the Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs on WGN. Cubs games were televised for the first time in 1948, thus making the year 2008 the 60-year anniversary of Cubs baseball on WGN-TV.
Not only did the Braves and Cubs wear 1948 throwback uniforms for this game, but the production crew at WGN Sports gave it a throwback look and feel to the broadcast. The first couple innings were done in black-and-white, the aesthetics of the on-screen graphics resembled a broadcast from the 1950s, and the in-game music was also from the era of the 1940s and 50s.
Broadcasters Len Kasper and Bob Brenly were dressed in a 1948-style two-piece suit, and even the Wrigley Field vendors were dressed for the throwback occasion.
The Cubs were down 2-1 in the bottom of the 9th, when Cubs outfielder Jim Edmonds delivered an opposite field home run to the left field basket to celtic fc tie the game at 2. Later in the 11th, with Reed Johnson pinch-hitting for Edmonds with the iraq bases loaded, Johnson was hit by Braves pitcher Jeff Ridgway, and Aramis Ramirez was forced home from third base for a 3-2 Cubs win.
