In Patch 8 The Light Cleric has become one of the strongest builds in Baldur’s Gate 3 because of the addition of the Circle of the Stars Druid subclass. Light Cleric provides extremely high utility from Radiating Orb, Reverberation, Daze, and a number of powerful AOE spells and conditions such as Spirit Guardians, Destructive Wave, and Warding Flare. The build really shines in Act 2 against Undead, but it is an incredible addition to your party the entire game thanks to Guidance, Fireball, Remove Curse, Bless, Aid, and so much more.

To get started, choose Druid at level 1. Circle of the Stars Druid has a more powerful early game than cleric and it’s useful to start learning the subclass when you don’t have as many spells available, so it’s best to start our Light Cleric off as a Druid.
For your race, Wood-elf is ideal for the increased move speed and also because we want Fey Ancestry so that we cannot be magically put to sleep. This will come in handy later when we use Glyph of Warding: Sleep on top of ourselves when we’re surrounded by enemies to put them all to sleep without falling asleep to it ourselves.
For your cantrips, it will be tempting to choose Guidance, but don’t - Circle of the Stars Druids learn guidance through their subclass so it would be a waste. Instead, choose Shillelagh and Produce Flame. Shillelagh will help make your melee attacks stronger and hit more often, and Produce Flame is a great ranged attack. These cantrips will mainly just be used for escaping the Nautiloid.
For your spells, I would recommend Longstrider if you don’t have plans for another class to provide it as it is an extremely useful movement speed increasing condition, and also Healing Word is great for helping a downed teammate at range. Create water can be helpful for Saving Mayrina later, and Fog is also great if you plan on stealing or doing other shenanigans and need cover.
At level 2, we’ll unlock our Subclass - Circle of the Stars. We gain Guidance, which will be very helpful for all our ability checks in the future. And we also gain Starry Form: Expend a Wild Shape Charge to take on a Starry Form rather than transforming into a beast. Three Starry Forms are unlocked sebastian ofner immediately at level 2: Archer, Chalice, and Dragon. Starry Form Archer grants us Luminous Arrow as a bonus action, which deals 1d8 + your spellcasting modifier as radiant damage to a target up to 60 feet away, usable each turn. Our other powerful Starry Form is Dragon. While in this form when you make a saving throw to maintain concentration on a spell, a roll result of 9 or lower is considered a 10. This is great for our Cleric since we’ll be concentrating on Spirit Guardians most of the time and since we’ll be in close range, chances are we’ll be getting attacked. While in Starry Form Dragon we can also use a bonus action to cast Dazzling Breath each turn. Dazzling Breath deals 2d6 + your spellcasting modifier radiant damage in a cone in front of your character.
