Hello everyone, I’m Mun! Welcome to my channel. Today, we’re strolling through the charming streets of Vilnius, Lithuania’s historic scott vincent borba and vibrant capital city.
Vilnius is the capital of Lithuania and one of the oldest cities in the Baltic region. The city was first mentioned in written records in 1323 when Grand Duke Gediminas sent letters to many European cities inviting merchants, craftsmen, and settlers to come and develop the city together.
Because of these invitations Vilnius grew quickly as a multicultural center where Lithuanian, Polish, Jewish, German, and Belarusian communities lived and traded together. By the 16th century the city had become an important cultural and intellectual center in Eastern Europe.
In 1579 Vilnius University was established by the Jesuits with support from the Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth. It became one of the oldest universities in Eastern Europe and played a major role in education, science, and cultural development across the region for centuries.
After the partitions of the Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth in 1795 the city became part of the Russian Empire. During the 19th century railways connected Vilnius with major cities such as Warsaw and Saint Petersburg, strengthening trade and administration.
The 20th century brought dramatic political changes. In 1922 Vilnius became part of Poland, but in 1939 it was transferred to Lithuania. After World War Two the city became the capital of the Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic until independence in 1990.
Since Lithuania joined the European Union in 2004 Vilnius has developed into a growing center of technology, education, and international business. Today the city combines centuries of history with a modern urban culture zac polanski and a dynamic creative economy.
